examples of bad logo design

Some brands fail by using bad logo design as a unique identifier for their business and unfortunately can not go under the radar undetected without being slammed by designers and customers who have good eyes for design.

Logo design is a crucial part of any brand, it gives the first impression about your brand and most times acts as a souvenir in the mind of your audience that your prospect takes home with and will always remember wherever they see them.

Here are examples of bad logo designs used by popular brands, however, some brands listed here might be your favorite but unfortunately the law of design doesn’t sugarcoat any evil done by any designer who fails to adhere to the principles of graphic design.

Here are examples of bad logo designs made by various brands including your favorite brands. Just take a look at how most of your favorite brands joined the bandwagon of bad logos that failed to adhere to those simple logo design principles.

Apple Logo (1976)

During the early days of the tech giant, they decided to go wild with their logo by literally telling a story with a whole image of Isaac Newton chilling under an Apple tree. I hope you get the idea behind the story already.

Trust me, If there was to be a bandwagon with a decal written ‘bad logo design’ on it, Apple would definitely be in it.

Master Card

Mastercards have a place among the examples of the worst logo designs ever made. The tech company holds the record of being the second-largest payments network, ranked behind Visa, in the global payments industry but once upon a time it had its logo looking like something designed by a $5 designer on Fiverr who loves playing with gradients.

London Olympic Logo Bad Logo Design

We have good and bad logo designs but this designer chose ‘alienese’, a language humans can’t understand. Probably our neighbors from the other planets will.

EndRon

The EndRon logo was made by one of the best self taught logo designers-Paul Rand. Let’s admit it, sometimes professional designers screw up by creating bad logo designs that make no sense. I guess we could justify this by saying “We lose some, and we win some”.

But this here my friend, is a bad, bad logo.

Kudawara Pharmacy

Some designers have decided to take things to a whole new level. Could this be a genuinely bad pharmaceutical logo or is my illusion playing tricks with me again thinking dirty? Just keep staring because when you see it, you can unsee it.

Pepsi Bad Logo Design

Abstract logo design has always been one of my favorite types of logo design. It allows us to design a logo using non-literal imagery which most times does not relate to what the brand does.

Luckily for us, the Pepsi logo was a scapegoat. It was revealed to be a bad logo with shady intent. It was exposed for being responsible for helping customers gain weight.

Helmets Are For football, Right?

I guess this logo self-acclaimed designer thought of nothing else in his head but a football helmet for a team’s logo. No attempt was made to create something unique which is one characteristic of a good logo.

Instituto de Estudos Orientais

This logo deserves an age restriction because of its inappropriate impressions. This should be tagged as a bad brand logo because it isn’t safe to be hanging around for kids who aren’t of age to view. I must say that the designer wanted to express his wildest fantasy through his logo design.

Google

Apple is the only one that had a bad logo for their brand, Google also chose to go heavy on their logo. Remember when they added a shadow drop effect and bevel and emboss effect on their logo?

One thing these popular brands with bad logos have in common is that they make bad mistakes with their design and also learn from it thereby making it better than the previous. Big brands had awful logos at their early beginning, but they learned from their mistakes.

Verizon

Here, you might come across a leading telecommunications firm. On the other hand, someone else might notice a conspicuous large red V, along with some unremarkable text. Chances are, you belong to the latter group.

Clinic Dental

The logo designer had a nice idea but his idea was executed poorly. As logo designers you should be conscious and mindful of the idea you sketch out.

Make sure that before sending a logo to a client, you must check if the logo is appropriate to avoid misinterpretation.

To avoid ending up with terrible logos, you can show the logo to your friends, family members, or colleagues before you send it to your client for final review.

This logo looks like a bad logo design done by a kid who was fortunate enough to use his dad’s computer to design his first-ever logo. Let us pardon him, he is just learning the ropes.

Spotify

Why did the Spotify logo go to therapy?

Because it had trouble finding its true angle in life – always feeling a bit tilted between rock and pop!

The Spotify logo has been a controversy in the logo design industry. Even with its obvious crooked and misaligned shape is one that doesn’t require rocket science to identify. When asked why it is that way, some say the crooked design was meant to make the brand appear more human.

Bing

bad logo design-bing 2009 logo

I believe every Internet user must be familiar with this bad logo design made by Microsoft. Bing is the second most popular search engine after Google. Created in 2009, the trademark is a good example you can use to identify the difference between a good and bad logo design. Any logo designer who has a keen eye for design would think that the font is stretched it is simply a case of poor font choice.

Locum

This logo takes the cake for being one of the absolute worst! Meet Locum, the Swedish property management company. Or, well, you’d think that from their logo, but it’s nowhere near the mark. Did they miss the memo on what “cum” means in English? It’s a classic example of how not to make it onto the popular brands with bad logos list!

Gap

The recent rebranding of the well-known clothing store GAP has taken its loyal fans by surprise. Whereas the previous classic white-on-blue logo was beloved, the new design, featuring black letters beside a tiny blue box, has left branding experts scratching their heads. What’s really puzzling is that Gap simply unveiled the new logo on their website without any fanfare or a clear explanation for this unexpected makeover. It’s a curious case of a popular brand with a not-so-popular logo!

Aldershot & Farnborough Twins & Triplets Club
